Bucket List Inspiration for the New Year

The beautiful thing about the Internet is the neverending inspiration you come across everyday. I find myself coming across things that make me say ‘I didn’t know I needed that in my life!’ Here’s a little taste of that inspiration for building your bucket list for the new year.

  1. Swim with turtles

There are a lot of places in the world to do this, but from personal experience, I highly recommend Tamarindo Beach on Culebra Island, Puerto Rico – off the east coast of the main island.

This beach is a snorkeler’s dream because of its clear and fairly shallow water. The best part is that this experience is FREE! Even though tours are offered, you don’t need a guide to take you out because you can see everything the beach has to offer with just a 50 feet swim out from shore – even the turtles!

While you’re on the island, make sure to visit Flamenco Beach, which is consistently ranked in the Top 10 Beaches in the World every year.

  1. Finish a challenging hike

There’s nothing quite like seeing an incredible vista after putting in some hard work and putting yourself in some thrilling situations. If you haven’t done a challenging hike before, I highly recommend getting out of your comfort zone and connecting with nature. I’ll share 3 of my favorite (challenging) hikes – spanning the East Coast of the US, the Southwest of the US, and Costa Rica!

Old Rag in Shenandoah National Park, Virginia

9.8 miles if you take the full circle. The last mile or so is heavy rock scrambling, which means you’ll be shimmying through rock crevices and climbing up piles. At the top you get 360 degree views of beautiful Shenandoah Park.

Angel’s Landing in Zion National Park, Utah

A tough hike with some intense switchbacks in the beginning. This is the famous steep cliff hike that requires you to hike up some walkways that are sometimes only 3 feet wide. It’s an incredible experience, especially if you work through a fear of heights!

Cerro Chato in La Fortuna, Costa Rica

Ever wanted to hike up and into a volcano? It’s a short hike, that goes pretty vertically up and then very steeply down. The challenge here is keeping your balance on the soft muddy clay. Once you reach the crater, you can take a dip in the mineral heavy lagoon that’s developed over the dormant years. Go Here to read about our experience & tips!

  1. Go to a city where you don’t speak the language

Self explanatory. Being surrounded by foreign sounds and unknown dialogue is one of the most uncomfortable feelings. And because of that, you push your comfort zone that much further out and it’s freeing.

  1. Travel solo

Good suggestions: Iceland (personal favorite!), Hawaii, Japan, Taiwan. Message me for tips on traveling solo in Iceland 🙂

  1. Go to a music festival

Check out the packing list (that’s applicable to more than Coachella!) here

  1. Eat something outrageous

Like bugs, maybe? Or any new dish. If you find yourself in Southeast Asia, you can treat yourself to some stir fried or deep fried bugs.

  1. I loved this! I want to go to a music festival and swim with the turtles so badly. My biggest thing on my list is to go to a concert (which I will this summer) and road trip with friends to the beach! Also, I want to start documenting more of my life with videos and photos and compile them in monthly clips because this is the time in my life that I don’t want to forget. Awesome article, it is highkey motivating me to live life with more adventure.
